Current Commissioners
Kris Stancil
Chairman Stancil is a lifelong resident of Pickens County. He is a graduate of Pickens High School and Valdosta State University. Kris is also a graduate of the Certified Public Manager program of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.
Kris took office as the Chairman of the Pickens County Board of Commissioners in 2021. Prior to taking office, Kris retired from a career in law enforcement that spanned over 18 years with the Valdosta Police Department, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles and most recently, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office. In addition to his career in Law Enforcement, Kris has served as the Executive Director of the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce and has served in a variety of ministry positions with area churches. Kris also served as Director of Jeepfest for more than 9 years.
He and his wife love to call Jasper their home and have enjoyed raising their two adult children here. They are actively involved at Revolution Church Jasper and his wife has served as an Elementary School Teacher for over 20 years.
Kris has a deep love for Pickens County and is excited to be a part of serving our community for the coming years.
Josh Tippens
Josh Tippens is a near-lifelong resident of Pickens County. A graduate of Pickens High School and later Appalachian Technical College, he now resides in the shadow of Sharp Mountain with his wife and their three children.
Josh was sworn in as the District 1 Commissioner in July of 2022. He is active member of the Rotary Club of Jasper, former Vice Chairman for the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, Graduate of the Leadership Pickens Program, and is a member of the Bethany-Salem Volunteer Fire Department. Josh also enjoys participating in a number of community fundraisers each year to benefit non-profits in Pickens County.
He strives to be a community minded servant leader and has a sincere desire to see Pickens County continue to flourish while maintaining the rich mountain views, scenic landscape, and rural atmosphere we have to offer. Josh sees this role as an opportunity to continue to give back to Pickens County and ensure that it remains a place our children will be proud to call home.
Josh Tatum
Josh Tatum is a lifelong Pickens County resident. He grew up in Ludville in west Pickens and now lives in east Pickens. He graduated from PIckens High School in 1998 and from the University of Georgia in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. For the past 19 years he has been the buyer for Buck Jones Nursery in Hickory Flat.
Josh was elected in 2022 to serve as District 2 Commissioner. Josh is a vendor at the Jasper Farmer’s Market and has served on a variety of committees for the Jasper United Methodist Church where he is a member.
Josh is excited to be part of serving the community that his family has been a part of for five generations.
